Fort Riley, located in the Flint Hills region of Kansas, was established in 1853 to protect settlers and trade routes along the Oregon, California, and Santa Fe trails. Named after Major General Bennet C. Riley, the fort played a significant role in the westward expansion and military operations during the Indian Wars, the Civil War, and later as a cavalry training post. Today, it is home to the 1st Infantry Division, known as “The Big Red One,” and continues to be an important military installation, providing training and support to combat-ready forces​
