NASA upgrades to LED technology for it's countdown clock.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is the United States government agency responsible for the civilian space program as well as aeronautics and aerospace research. The agency is also responsible for the Launch Services Program (LSP) which provides oversight of launch operations and countdown management for unmanned NASA launches. NASA relies on a countdown clock to communicate to the world when launches are happening.

  • NASA's old countdown clock had taken a beating from Florida weather (2004 hurricanes in particular)
  • NASA wanted the ability to communicate more information quickly and easily
  • NASA wanted a visual representation to showcase a new age in space exploration
  • NASA needed an LED display that was easy to work with and highly versatile

After much research, NASA chose to partner with MEGA LED to create a sign that is:

  • a 6.25mm pitch resolution top-of-the-line LED display
  • 7.4 feet high and 26.24 feet wide
  • 360 pixels x 1280 pixels resolution
  • Consists of over 460,000 LED's producing a brightness of 6,000 NITS

NASA's new display has been seen and appreciated by millions of people already. The new sign has received positive press from reputable news sources such as:,,,,, among many others and has been widely considered a positive and timely upgrade.

Headquarters: Kennedy Space Center, FL
Sector: Government

"I think this is an upgrade that will really surprise the news media with how much more information they will get to see while they are outside watching the launch."
