As you explore new ways to advertise your business you may be considering digital displays. Upgrading to digital allows you to better connect and engage with your ads and mix in communication too. Unlike LED TVs or computer screens, you have to custom order oversized LED screens. Here’s what you need to know to buy LED screens.
Advertising Screens Aren’t The Same As TVs
While they look a lot like an oversized flat screen TV, advertising screens are built with different components. To be visible from a distance they must have a higher brightness or luminosity level. However, due to the advanced technology, LED screens for advertising are much more energy efficient than TV screens. They are also up to 11 times more energy-efficient than equally sized fluorescent or incandescent signs.
They can be custom built
Our custom made signs can range anywhere from a 3×5 sign to any size you can image! We are proud to have constructed NASA’s very own countdown clock, and can make custom signs of any imaginable size, pixel pitch, height, thickness, and much more.
Other than pre-made text-only scrolling signs that can be placed in your window or hung on an interior wall, LEDs must be custom-built. Here are the top factors to consider for customization:
- Size
- Indoor or outdoor
- Viewing range
- Local weather
- Single, tri, or full-color
- Text-only or HD capable
- Pixel pitch (how close the pixels are to one another creating a crisper or more diffused effect)
You May Need More Than One Type Of Sign
Before you buy your LED screens for advertising, determine where they will be placed. For example, if you will be mounting an outdoor sign on the side of your building and would also like a poster-sized sign or two to place indoors—only the outdoor sign needs to have the weatherproof components.
Or if one of your LED screens will be placed along the roadway and another at eye level for employees or customers while they walk in—the pixel pitch will be different.
There’s no need to pay for components you don’t need, so have each sign custom-built for its location.
Determine Where Your LED Screens Will Be Placed
You know you want to improve communication and have a more versatile advertising method. However, before you buy LED screens you must determine where they will be placed. Unlike printed banners, posters, or signs both the location and the height of the sign factor into the customization.
Yes, lettering and images must be larger on printed signs that are mounted high off of the ground or that you want to be visible from several blocks away. But with LED screens for advertising, the pixel pitch will be determined in part by where and how high your sign is mounted.
Text-Only Signs Are Highly Effective
Whether it’s not in your budget to order a sign that can post HD images and video, or you simply aren’t in need of images and video—text-only signs are highly effective. With text, determine if you want a single color only, such as white, green, blue, or red. Or order a tri-color or full-color sign.
Even text-only signs come with 38 character functions, 32 letter effects, and over 300 stored animations. The only thing left to decide is if you want to be able to post 1 or 2 lines of text. Smaller signs are more effective with 1 line of text, and larger signs are easier to read with 2 lines of text.
The Larger Your Sign, The Smaller Your Pixel Pitch
The smaller your pixel pitch the more expensive your sign will be. So, while you may be tempted to go with a larger pixel pitch—if your sign is large, a smaller pixel pitch is essential. The last thing you want is to post images to your new sign, only to find that they are distorted due to its larger pixel pitch. A reputable sign dealer will talk you through your options, even suggesting a smaller sign to ensure crystal clear HD images and video.
You May Want To Layer Your Signs
Another factor to take into consideration before you buy your LED screens, is that you may want to layer more than one sign. Layering 2 to 3 signs is a popular choice for outdoor roadway signs. For example, any combination of a logo ID cabinet layered over 1 or 2 scrolling or HD signs. Or an HD sign layered over a scrolling sign. Or multiple HD signs to really make an impact. Maybe even a full video wall.
Finally, if it’s an outdoor sign, consider if the sign needs to be two-sided to attract attention from drivers in both directions. Or you can angle your sign so that it can only be viewed from one direction.
Your Frame And Mount Can Be Customized Too
When you order your sign from Mega LED Technology, we factor the frame and mounting into our prices. You can of course frame and mount them yourself, but we offer a full-service solution. This means we will need to assess the area you plan to mount your LED advertising screens to ensure it is sturdy as-is, or if it needs to be reinforced. We can also mount your sign on a custom pedestal, brick base, or pole. If you’d like to speak to a representative about your particular location, and sign needs, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We’ll gladly help you figure out your best option, free of charge.
The color and design aesthetic of your frame and base can be designed to match your building exterior, interior design, or company branding.
A Digital Sign Designer May Be Required
One of the reasons to buy LED screens is that you can preschedule your ads and communication and update them in real-time. Scrolling signs come with a remote and HD signs come with intuitive software.
While you and your team can easily create text-only messages, a sign designer may be required for your ads. Maybe even to design communication that is visually appealing. The larger your sign, the more important it is to hire a digital sign designer. This will ensure proper size and scale and that you are taking advantage of digital special effects such as motion graphics.
