Billboard sign advertising isn’t new, but with LED alternatives they pack an even more powerful punch. As you transition more of your ad spending to digital, don’t forget digital signage. In addition to posting your own ads, you can monetize your digital billboard by renting out ad space—or you can rent ad space on existing billboards. Here are the key benefits to help you make your decision about purchasing Highway Billboard Signs.
Increased Visibility
Highway Billboard Signs by nature are easier to view from a distance, but the vibrant LED lights of digital signs provide at least 2 extra blocks of visibility. This is noteworthy on highways where driving speeds are high. Not to worry if the sun is shining bright as digital signs are anti-glare. While printed billboards always have lighting to provide visibility when the sun goes down there are always a few shadows. No more shadows with highway billboard signs. In fact, with so few lights on the highway, your sign will really stand out at night. It’s no wonder Vegas is filled with these signs around every corner!
Maximum Traffic
Highways are high-traffic areas, which instantly increases your reach. No, not everyone who drives by your sign is local, and not everyone will be in your demographic—so choosing where to rent or place your Highway Advertising Signs is key. Billboards are a popular choice for industries that serve everyone, such as restaurants, hotels, healthcare centers, insurance companies, churches, and major retail chains. But, with the flexibility to alternate ads, LED signs are increasingly popular for niche industries. This empowers small and local businesses, particularly those at the next exit, to rent ad space or purchase their own sign, driving customers who would have gone to larger well known establishments, to their location instead.
No Vandalism
Traditional print signs always have an access point, typically a ladder and a balcony of sorts. Both are required to install or repair print ads. Unfortunately, these same access points allow access to vandals. We’ve all seen at least a few spray-painted or defaced billboards. With Highway Billboard Signs the concerns for vandalism are all but eliminated. Signs are switched out remotely with the software that comes with the sign. The electrical components are housed closer to ground level for easy access. When the sign needs annual and as-needed maintenance and repairs your LED repair technician has the required equipment and gear to access your elevated sign.
On top of this, MEGA signs are vandal proof. They can take a swing from a metal baseball bat, and their polymer coating allows spray paint graffiti to be washed away with ease! Check out our vandal proof video here!
Minimized Ad Expense
You’ll still need to hire a Digital Signs Designer, but you won’t have to pay to have your new ad printed, installed, or removed. Simply upload the sign to your software and schedule when you want it to go live—without waiting for the installation to fit into someone’s schedule or for the weather to be right. If you currently have a go-to billboard designer, you need to ask if they specialize in designing digital signage. This includes motion signs, signs with a short video, or similar ads as your printed collateral with vibrant digital elements. As a special industry breakthrough courtesy, MEGA LED Technology provides 1 full year of content creation for your Digital Signs and Highway Advertising Signs!
Alternating Signs
You can purchase Highway Advertising Signs for your business or monetize them with rented ad space. Whichever option you choose, consider alternating your signs. Your restaurant may feature timed ads for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Your hotel could feature a primary ad, but rotate a series of signs featuring your amenities during rush hour when traffic is stop-and-go. Or maybe only post ads with videos during rush hour. If you rent out your signs you could rotate different signs at different time slots or days of the week.
For example, you may charge more for rush hour and weekends. The industry average for drive-by signage is at least 10 seconds per ad. You can even reuse old ads or just edit the text. For example, maybe you post the same or a similar ad every holiday season—with an updated annual holiday message.
Shorter And Hyper-Targeted Campaigns
One of the downsides of print billboards is that commuters pass the same sign every day for months at a time. The sign and its message remain in the back of their mind, but at some point, the sign becomes part of the drive. They only notice ads when a new ad goes up. With your Highway Advertising Signs, you can run shorter and hyper-targeted ad campaigns. As mentioned above you can alternate ads, but you can also keep a solo sign up, and alternate the sign with greater frequency—a minimum of 2 weeks is the industry standard. This strategy ensures commuters take notice, keeping your business or brand top of mind.
Cross-Channel Marketing
As with all billboards and print ads, you want to keep text to a minimum. However, look for ways to encourage and support cross-channel marketing. At the very least, add your website URL or FB page name. You could also highlight a contest, create a unique hashtag, or add an easy to remember coupon code such as “RushHour10” for 10% off their next in-person or online purchase. The goal is to take your Highway Advertising Signs viewer to either your onsite location or a digital location, to implement similar tactics throughout your marketing campaign, and to be able to track conversions.
Think Beyond The Highway
Highways remain one of the most popular places to install billboard signs, but with the low maintenance of Highway Advertising Signs—think beyond the highway. Consider placing a full-sized or medium digital sign in your parking lot, along the street, in a location that is visible from the highway, or even on the side of or on top of your building. Be sure to check your commercial lease and local ordinances to ensure placement is not in violation, or to see if you need to file for a sign permit. Always consider the volume of people who drive or walk by when selecting your location, with the goal of maximum exposure.

Really enjoyed this article. Really thank you! Really Cool.
You made a good point that there are more than just highways where billboards could be used. I’m interested in learning more about the effectivity of that kind of advertising because I plan to open my own restaurant someday. I think that kind of advertisement would be on the table at some point in the future.
