You have countless options to choose from when selecting your outdoor signs. While all signs have a similar objective, modern monument signs make a statement. They aren’t the right fit for every location, and they may be one of your many exterior signs. Here is everything you need to know.
What Is A Monument Sign?
Most signs fall into one of two categories: pylon or monument. Both options are durable and custom-built with outdoor-friendly materials.
Pylons are designed to be elevated and viewed from a distance. They can be solo business signs or multi-business signs, static or digital. Pylons can be customized to your brand, but most are mounted to simple poles or pedestals.
Just as their name implies, monuments are a bit more refined. They are often designed with a custom brick or stone base—either solid, columns, or sleek aluminum. This might be to match your building exterior or to create a stylized look. While they may have a bit of height, they are designed to be eye-level with those passing by.
Do I Need A Permit For My On-Premise Signs?
Maybe. It’s a misconception that if you lease or own the space you can post whatever sign you want. Every county or city is unique, so you will need to check your local ordinances as you may be limited to size, sign type, or location. Also, check your lease. Your business consultant may be able to advise you on local restrictions, or type “YOUR CITY sign permits” into your search engine of choice.
Modern monument signs are large, so it is more likely that a permit will be required—or that you will be limited in some way. They are also an investment, so be sure to check before you order your sign.
In fact, this is one of the many reasons Mega LED Technology custom builds our signs. With a custom build, we can meet your ordinance requirements.
Where Should I Place My New Sign?
Due to their size and scale, the most popular places to mount your new sign are along a roadway or at your primary entrance. When selecting where to place your sign, consider what visibility will look like from both directions.
If you place your sign along a busy roadway, you could have a two-sided sign built so that traffic can view your logo and messaging from both directions. Or you can angle the sign so that only oncoming traffic can view it.
Signs placed at your entrance can also be two-sided. Or you can add landscaping to beautify the back side of the sign.
